A Few Ideas for Getting Out of the House

A Few Ideas for Getting Out of the House

Over the last several weeks I have been busier than I remember in a very long time.  Between work, school, and the various hurdles life likes to throw in our paths, it’s been a crazy month of May.  Through all of this, my pain has been a bit higher, too. However, I believe it’s important that we push ourselves to learn and grow, while also taking time to enjoy life.  Here’s a few simple things I’ve done to try and enjoy life over the last month or so.

Taking a Local Trip

About a month ago, my wife and I took a local weekend trip to some nearby towns about an hour so away.  She had done a great job of finding some fun, fairly inexpensive activities for us over the weekend.

First, we visited a local town, Seagrove, NC, known for being home to several potters.  Our first stop was with a local potter who spent about an hour providing us with our first pottery lesson.  We were actually able to mold clay on a potting wheel into a bowl.  It was pretty surprisingly fun and very cathartic.  We spent the rest of the day visiting some local pottery shops and a pottery museum.  It is really amazing some of the things these artists are able to create.

The following day we spent the morning touring downtown Pittsboro, NC.  We, of course, hit the bakery that was downtown, and then visited several other shops in the area, leisurely wandering about the shops.  In the afternoon, we visited a local mead maker and took a tour of their meadery.  If you're unfamiliar, mead is wine made with honey instead of grapes.  I think my wife found a new favorite!

The last day (yes, this was a three-day trip) we visited the local tiger rescue organization in Pittsboro.  It’s called a tiger rescue, but they have a large variety of big cat species there and seem to do a great job of caring for these animals that typically were not in good living situations prior to their arrival at the sanctuary.

There you have it.  Several ideas for things to do to provide a little stress relief in your life.  While my wife and I decided to do these as a trip over three consecutive days, we could just have easily done one of these items each weekend and made three to four weekend excursions out of these.  I hope this gives you some ideas of things to look for around your home, and perhaps you can share some of your ideas, too.
